Title: Michel Strogoff —. Captain Michael Strogoff is said to be the courier of the Tsar 6, km far to Irkutsk. I can remember those days when this magnificent series was on German television quite regular.
I always watched it since it was really a wonderful piece of work. Unfortunately, I can't figure out the movie company that made this series, or that has the rights on it, or I would mail them to request a DVD-release It is a series based upon Jules Vernes' famous novel "Mikhail Strogoff - courier of the Tsar".
I've read this book as well and I find the TV series really close to that piece of work, which is -IMHO- one of the best works of Vernes.
As far as I can remember it after all these years, the entire series is well made. Good acting, good atmosphere, wonderful costumes and locations. The series take quite some hours, but never become boring at all.
I can only recommend this work to everybody who enjoys good adventure and travel films. All Titles TV Episodes Celebs Companies Keywords Advanced Search.

I remember liking a scene where a carriage gets stuck and disabled it echoed in my mind to a scene written by Bram Stoker and using the river as a passageway.
Nice and interesting flourishes. As for the people, whew! Our hero suffers great physical and mental trials and injuries with a stoicism and determination that makes the Terminator look like a wus.
The antagonist is no Fu Manchu or Dr. As a result he commands and personally dishes out pain and suffering no matter how immoral those actions appear to those around him — including his own men.
On the lighter side, the two reporters have an amusing interaction until they finally commit to helping our hero. Three 3.

He will deliver a vital message to the Emperor's brother. Hopefully the letter will prevent a rebellion from spreading in that province. Along the road he encounters two suspicious journalists French and British of course.
These battling friends are always trying to sabotage each others reports. More enjoyably a young lady in distress appears. Neither cold or heat or mountains or rivers, not to mention the rebe Michael Strogoff a courier in the Czar's service,is sent as an secret agent to Siberia.
Neither cold or heat or mountains or rivers, not to mention the rebels, can stop Strogoff. The courier makes The Terminator look like a wimp!
Tortured after being captured, half starved this human machine keeps on ticking. Will he free himself from confinement and arrive at his destination in time?
That scene with that poor man buried alive in the ground with just his head sticking out, has haunted me. A nice straightforward adventure novel, as Michael on a mission for the Czar has to basically travel from one end of Russia to the other before a traitor can give the enemy armies vital information.
Michael is stoic to the point of having one facial expression, but he is determined, manly and good to his mother.
His love interest is treated as a bit of a damsel, but proves to be every bit as tough as her boyfriend. What keeps this book from sinking under it's own weight is the two bickering reporters who keep showing up. Their rivalry and remarks to each other are quite funny and they act as a sort of Greek Chorus at times, filling in plot points.
Not one of Verne's best, but still a fun read. View all 4 comments. Who knew that Jules Verne also wrote historical fiction?!? I just found this out when I stumbled over this fabulous book.
If you are a Jules Verne fan then you will enjoy this character driven book that gives lots of information on the cultures of people living in Russia during the time of the Tzars.
English Already immersed in the books of Jules Verne, I came into my hands a different adventure, the story of Michael Strogoff mail of the tsar forced to a hard journey throughout Russian Siberia in the fulfillment of a mission, this novel shows us a Jules Verne soaked in geography and aware of the most meticulous details of the lands it describes.

Published in , it is said to have been one of the French author's most successful novels along with his round-the-world tour in 80 days, although I have no idea what kind of success 20 leagues of underwater travel or Journey to the Center of the Earth will have had, which seem to be much more spectacular.
However, Mr. Strogoff's adventures constitute a formidable novel, both for the fans of the anticipations and visionary Jules Verne and for those who like more traditional stories.
The Tartars advance by burning every village in their path, from central Russia to the east and west. Miguel Strogoff, captain of the Russian Tsar's postmen's group, is designated to travel more than 5, kilometers to Irkutsk to deliver the letter to the Grand Duke.
He must cross the steppe full of enemies and dangers and besides all this, his mother, lives in one of the places he has to pass to get to Irkutsk, the problem is that in that village there are people who know him because he lived there in his childhood and also must resist the temptation to see his mother and although he goes with false identity Nicolas Koparnof and with a Podaroshna rescue that allows him to take horses or get on trains, boats or anything that facilitates the trip.
On her trip, she meets Nadia Fedor, a young woman who wants to meet her father in Irkutsk when her mother dies.
By chance they become travel companions, and the couple joined by Alcides Jolivet and Harry Blount, who are journalists covering the invasion.
Miguel subjected to harsh tests, punishments, and hardships in the company of his new friends. Sin embargo las aventuras del Sr. A good old-fashioned adventure tale, an indestructible hero, a meek-but-strong heroine, setting out to achieve the impossible: crossing thousands of miles of Siberia, a large part of it on foot, trying to outrun hostile Tartar armies and a crafty villainous traitor in order to reach their destination and to deliver the Tsar's message to his brother, the Grand Duke, at Irkutsk and to save Mother Russia-Siberia from those ravaging Central Asian hordes.

Oh yeah, completely unmuzzled by "political correctness". The book was originally published in I have no Russian background whatsoever, but the Russian-Siberian-Asian feeling and the vast landscape seem all very well captured to me.
Shelves: This is the second time I read this book, and this is the second time I liked it. It has a corageuos hero, a noble heroine, and a cruel villain.
The sad part is, I just discovered that my edition is a short one, so I hope to re-read it a third time in a better one, hopefully in French, to grasp entirely Verne's words.
This is one of the better Verne novels I have read in my current reading of a lot of lessser Verne. It has no sf element, being a straight adventure movel.
The hero is a courier sent by the czar by implication, Alexander II --his more generous policies to Siberian exiles are stressed to his brother Grand Duke Sergius in Irkutsk during a revolt of Islamic Central Asia led by the emir of Bokhara and a Russian traitor named Ivan Ogareff.
The Muslim forces seem much more dangerous than they actuall This is one of the better Verne novels I have read in my current reading of a lot of lessser Verne.
The Muslim forces seem much more dangerous than they actually were at that time, from my rather vague memories of it.
Much of the first part is a straight travelogue through eastern Russia, interesting as giving descriptions of towns known in English chiefly for their "odd" names like Omsk and Tomsk.
Strogoff is accompanied by Nadia, a young daughter of a Siberian exile, and and for much of the way by a pair of mildly comic journalists, one French and one English less blatantly silly than much of Verne's usual heavy-handed ethnic humor.
Eventually the book becomes more exciting as Michael is captured by Ogareff. The most famous scene is when Michael is supposedly blinded by Ogareff's orders.
It is not, I think, a great surprise in this sort of nmovel to reveal that Michael completes his mission anyway.
Alla fine i tartari si ritirano, mentre il padre di Nadia e gli altri esiliati politici vengono liberati.
Michele Strogoff sposa Nadia e torna a vivere a Mosca, dove diventa Consigliere militare di Alessandro II.
